16 Sept 2026Sofascore Introduces Fan Voting for Player of the Match

Sofascore users can now pick their own Player of the Match. A brand new fan voting feature lets you cast a vote for the best performer on the pitch, running alongside the trusted Sofascore Rating that has always crowned the official Player of the Match.
Two awards, one moment. Sofascore POTM stays exactly as you know it, powered by our data-driven Rating system. Fan Voting is the new addition, built entirely on your vote. Both live together on the event details page, so you can see how your pick compares to the numbers.
How voting works
Voting opens at the 80th minute of every match. As soon as the clock hits that mark, you will get a push notification inviting you to vote for your Player of the Match. The poll includes every player who took part in the game: the starting lineups plus any substitutes who came off the bench, for both teams.
The window stays open until one hour after the final whistle. Once you vote, that is your final answer. There is no changing your mind, so choose wisely. Shortly after voting closes, a second notification lands to reveal the winner and how the vote played out.
Available on every match with a lineup
Fans POTM rolls out across all football matches that have a published lineup. That means this is not reserved for the biggest games alone. Whether it is a Champions League night or a weekend league fixture, your voice counts the moment the lineups are confirmed.
Why this matters
Football is full of moments that get people talking: a wonder strike, a last-gasp save, a piece of individual brilliance nobody saw coming. The Sofascore Rating captures the numbers behind that moment. Fan Voting captures the feeling. Now both get a place on the scoreboard, and the debate between what the stats say and what the fans believe becomes part of the experience.
So next time the 80th minute rolls around, do not just watch the finish. Vote for it.
